Migration Madness Top Trumps Competition Winners

Create your own Top Trump Card!

Our summer double issue explored all about why and how different animals migrate. So, of course, we had to give you a migration-themed competition! We asked you to design your own Top Trump migration card.

What a fantastic job everyone did!

Congratulations to our four winners:

Selena, age 10, Croydon,  Mosaic sea turtle

Selena's use of a sea turtle mosaic was very eye-catching. The turtle looks fantastic! She's done a wonderful job finding and using different shades of green. She's collected some great information too!

Harriet, age 10, Macclesfield – Ruby-Throated Hummingbird

Harriet's drawing is just beautiful! She's collected some wonderful facts showing how hard the hummingbird works to travel so far!

Noah, age 7, Llantwit Major – Monarch Butterfly

Just look at that attention to detail! Stunning! We can tell that Noah has really taken his time with his entry - beautifully neat with lots of interesting facts.

Alex, age 7, Eley – Bewick's Swan

A fantastic choice of animal! This really is the cutest swan we've ever soon! Some fantastic facts and information collected! A very powerful card!

What they won:

Ocean Bingo is a beautifully presented game, packed with ocean creatures for hours of bingo fun! This new addition to Laurence King’s bestselling bingo series features 64 weird, wonderful and beautiful marine species, each with fun facts and glorious illustrations by Holly Exley. RRP £19.99.

Well done to all of our other entries!

As always, it's such a tough job choosing only a handful of winners! All of our entrees were superb and it was interesting to see our readers selecting a variety of animals from sea-life to birds and insects! A big well-done everyone! We've had to publish your beautiful cards too!

Monthly competition: the secret egg challenge

by Eco Kids Planet June 02, 2026

This competition asked you to design a secret egg hidden somewhere in nature, and your entries went far beyond the obvious nests and burrows. Eggs arrived disguised as pine cones, floating on leaf boats, perched on volcano ledges, tucked into cloud cover and even masquerading as chocolate Easter eggs to fool foxes. Thank you to every reader who took up the challenge and thought like a parent bird, fish, reptile or imaginary creature trying to keep their precious egg safe.

Monthly competition: the river writes back

by Eco Kids Planet May 04, 2026

We were swept away by the response to this competition. Letters arrived from rivers across the world – the Thames, the Mississippi and many more unnamed waterways – each one brimming with personality, passion and a genuine love of the natural world. You gave your rivers voices that were worried, hop...

The Secret Underground Loudspeaker: Build a Megaphone Burrow
The secret underground loudspeaker: build a megaphone burrow

by Eco Kids Planet April 03, 2026

Somewhere beneath a grassy field right now, a tiny insect is building an underground loudspeaker. Male mole crickets engineer horn-shaped burrows that amplify their calls hundreds of metres into the night air – and your child can recreate the same science at home using nothing but cardboard and a phone. This hands-on experiment explores sound, shape and natural engineering in a way that is genuinely surprising. No screens, no special equipment, just a brilliant idea borrowed from nature.
