The slime craze is well and truly here! However, a lot of parents feel uncomfortable about children making and using slime, because many ingredients, such as glue, borax, washing-up liquid and contact lens solution, are full of chemicals, and exposure through the skin can be dangerous and toxic.

Eco Kids Planet Magazine has been testing a new eco-friendly slime, which works like a dream. It’s 100% non-toxic, made from natural ingredients, and completely edible and biodegradable. We’ve made this batch super-slimy, green and creepy for Halloween!

What you need:

  • Half a cup of cornflour
  • Cup of water
  • Natural food colouring (we used green)
  • Natural food decorations (we used icing eyes, cupcake sprinkles and jelly sweets)
  • Old plastic container (with a lid to store your slime)
  • Spoon and knife for mixing
  • Wipes (very handy to have these nearby)

What to do:

Step 1: Prepare an area that you don’t mind getting messy.

Step 2: Measure out half a cup of cornflour. Tip this into your plastic container.

Step 3: Add some food colouring to your cup of water. Mix together.

Step 4: Add about 10 spoons of the coloured water to the cornflour. Give it a good mix using a knife or spoon.

Step 5: Your mixture should now be rather crumbly. Slowly add some more coloured water to the mixture, one spoonful at a time, until you reach a gooey slimy consistency. You need to mix it after each spoon of water is added. If the slime is too watery, just add a little more cornflour. If it becomes too dry or crumbly, add a splash more water.

Step 6: Time to decorate! Add your favourite Halloween treats to make your slime creepy-crawly, spooky-wooky. Give it a good mix with your hands. Watch as the eyes and insects bury themselves and move under the slime... Cool!

All great, apart from the wipes which are known to be no friend to the environment!!! Would be great if this was removed from the list of requirements.
