Chinese Black Western Greater Vole
Chinese Black Western Greater Vole

Finley, age 6, Woodbridge

"Chinese Black Western Greater Vole"

Here is my wetland creature. I had lots of fun researching and creating it. I hope you like it.

Snapping Swamp Monkey

Archie, age 7, Blairgowrie

"Snapping Swamp Monkey"

Pingree

Tigerlilly, age 11, Newport

"Pingree"

Appearance: Pingree has really soft, sleek skin. It is pink and green in colour, that is where the name comes from. It is an amphibian and lives in rushes near swamps.
Size:16cm
Habitat: It makes its bed in a clump of reeds or rushes in the wetlands, where it lays its spawn.
Characteristics: It has sharp teeth for catching small fish and large insects, eg dragonflies. It looks quite cute but it is actually really fierce.
Sound: Harsh and guttural shriek when angry, but when luring prey it gives a sweet calming hypnotic purring noise.
Predators: Crocodiles and hippos.

"Bumble fish"

Beakeadon

Dora, age 7, London

"Beakeadon"
The name of my animal is the Beakeadon
It eats large fish and capybaras and it lives in the wetlands.
The Beakeadon has red eyes that glow in the dark and this allows it to see under the water at night.
It has a spiky spear at the end of its tail that it uses to stab the fish.
This spooky animal has long twiggy legs like a flamingo.
It has a big scaly body that is waterproof.
It has sharp teeth to help it chew its food.
This powerful, wetland creature has a long neck that can look through its legs to check for predators.
